Private Forest Sámi Experience & Arctic Circle Journey

A private journey into Sámi life, reindeer traditions and the landscapes north of the Arctic Circle.

Travel deep into the forests of Arctic Sweden for a personal encounter with a way of life that has been shaped by reindeer, seasons and the northern landscape for generations.

Your private guide will collect you at your accommodation in Harads and take you north through forests, small villages and sparsely populated landscapes towards Flakaberg. Rather than simply travelling from one destination to another, the journey itself becomes part of the experience. Along the way, your guide introduces the landscape, local history and the relationship between people and nature in this part of Arctic Sweden.

Meet the Forest Sámi

In Flakaberg you will meet Lars Eriksson, whose family has worked with reindeer here for seven generations. This is not a staged attraction or a large commercial reindeer farm. It is an intimate meeting with a person, his reindeer and a living tradition.

Lars welcomes you into his world and shares stories about his family, the reindeer, the changing seasons and what it means to maintain a close relationship with the land.

You will have the opportunity to spend time close to the reindeer and observe their individual behaviour while learning about reindeer husbandry and the knowledge required to live and work in this northern environment.

The experience is deliberately kept small and personal, allowing time for conversation, questions and genuine interaction.

Lunch in the North

During the visit, we slow the pace and sit down for lunch. The meal is inspired by the flavours and traditions of northern Sweden and is accompanied by hot and cold drinks. Homemade pastries and coffee or tea provide another opportunity to sit together, talk and absorb the surroundings.

Cross the Arctic Circle

On the return journey, guests can choose to stop at the Arctic Circle. Here, at approximately 66°33′ north, we leave the vehicle and mark the crossing of one of the world’s great geographical boundaries.

Your guide explains what the Arctic Circle actually represents, how dramatically daylight changes through the seasons and why this latitude has shaped both nature and human life in the North. Depending on the season, the surroundings can range from deep winter snow and low Arctic light to the almost continuous daylight of summer.

It makes a natural conclusion to a journey that has been as much about understanding the landscape as travelling through it.

Why This Experience Is Different

Many visitors to the Arctic meet reindeer. Far fewer have the opportunity to sit down with someone whose family has lived and worked with them for generations. This experience is built around personal access rather than performance. There are no crowds and no fixed show.

Instead, the experience develops through the meeting

Tallberg Dinner Experience

The private location of Tallberg Dinner.

Experience an intimate evening shaped by nature, storytelling, and the authentic flavors of Arctic Sweden. Deep in the Arctic forest, beside the still waters of Lake Båttjärnen, we invite you to a three-course dinner prepared over an traditionally muurikka under the vast northern sky.

Your journey begins with a short transfer into the secluded Tallberg forest landscape. Just ten meters from the shore of Lake Båttjärnen, a private outdoor dining setting awaits, illuminated by the glow of a crackling fire. Here, the silence of the wilderness is broken only by the stories of your guides and the sounds of the forest.

Local food

The menu is a tribute to the Arctic, featuring ingredients harvested from the surrounding rivers, forests, and mountains. You will enjoy fish sustainably caught in the Lule River or local reindeer and moose from the Harads area, all prepared over a traditional muurikka. Each dish is thoughtfully paired with selected wines or non-alcoholic alternatives, creating a dining experience where Nordic culinary traditions meet the profound stillness of nature.

The stately Storforsen

Experience one of Arctic Sweden’s most impressive natural landmarks on a private journey to Storforsen, where the free-flowing Pite River reveals its extraordinary power.

Storforsen is one of Europe’s largest unregulated rapids. Here, enormous volumes of water surge through a dramatic landscape of exposed bedrock, old pine forest and channels shaped by the river over thousands of years.

This private experience is designed to go beyond the traditional visit to the main viewpoint.

Together with your private guide, you explore the river on foot, following carefully selected trails and quieter paths through the nature reserve. Along the way, the guide introduces the ecology of the Pite River, the forces that created the landscape and the importance of free-flowing rivers in northern Scandinavia.

The experience changes with the seasons. During spring and early summer, snowmelt transforms Storforsen into an immense display of moving water. Later in summer, lower flows expose polished rock formations, old channels and smaller streams that are hidden beneath the river during high water.

There is time to stop to listen and simply experience the sound and physical presence of the river.

Private Riverside Lunch

Away from the busiest viewpoints, your guide prepares a private outdoor lunch in a carefully selected location overlooking the river or surrounded by the forest.

The meal is inspired by northern Sweden and prepared outdoors whenever conditions allow, using selected local and regional ingredients.

Coffee and homemade fika are served during the experience.

Rather than being treated simply as a meal stop, lunch becomes part of the journey, a quiet contrast to the immense power of the mighty rapids Storforsen.

The Story of a Free-Flowing River

The Pite River is one of Sweden’s four national rivers protected from large-scale hydropower development.

During the experience, the guide explains how flowing water has shaped both the landscape and human life along the river. Depending on the interests of the guests, the interpretation can include river ecology, migratory fish, traditional use of the river, forestry, conservation and modern river management.

This makes the experience equally suitable for guests looking for an extraordinary nature experience and those with a deeper interest in Scandinavian landscapes and environmental history.

The Character of the Experience

This is not a rushed sightseeing excursion.

It is a private encounter with one of the great rivers of Arctic Sweden — combining dramatic nature, local knowledge, food and time in the landscape.

Raw water. Ancient rock. Old forest.

Storforsen is not something you simply see. It is something you feel.
